US Postal Service in a Changing World

Over the past couple years the United States Postal Service has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Faced with an enormous budget deficit, the postal service has had to come up with a myriad of plans to make up the budgetary shortfall.

The plan that was put into place included cutting the hours of around thirteen thousand rural post offices, whose hours are now only two to six hours a day. However, here at The Processed Word, we are still open six days a week, and are open nine hours a day Monday through Friday. This is because we are serving our customers constantly throughout the day, while many of these rural post offices will only see one or two customers per day sometimes.

Over the next couple of years, the US Postal service is going to have to learn how to adapt to a changing world. Sadly, many postal offices in far-flung and rural communities might become the casualties of a changing world.
